两个女人，有着相似的经历，甚至是相似的心计，展开了为求成名的争夺战。 维尔玛是一个夜总会舞女，名气不大。因为一怒之下枪杀了出轨丈夫而被关进大牢。比利是当地一个靠打谋杀案官司而提升知名度的律师，他受理了这桩案件，心中有着自己的打算。他借助媒体炒作维尔玛的案子，一方面维尔玛瞬间成为红人，而他自己也声名大振。 然而洛克茜的案件却让比利转移了注意力。梦想成为歌星的洛克茜也是因为怒杀男友而身负罪名，比利决定要把她包装成楚楚可怜的受害者，令媒体更疯狂的大肆报道。 维尔玛觉察形势不妙，为了成名，她跟洛克茜之间的斗法不可避免的开始了。。穆德（David Duchovny 大卫•杜楚尼饰）被外星反叛者劫持，而斯科莉（Gillian Anderson 吉莲•安德森饰）亦同时发现自己怀有身孕。穆德的办公室被搜查，斯科莉请求Skinner（Mitch Pileggi 饰）帮助寻找搭档，孤枪侠也参与进来。FBI高层则派出探员约翰•多格特（Robert Patrick 罗伯特•帕特立克饰）协助调查，但两个人的初次会面不欢而散。 调查局发现穆德的单位密码和信用卡在失踪后的几天都有使用纪录，甚至发现了刻有穆德生卒年月的墓碑。多格特认为穆德假装失踪，以便盗取资料独自调查。案情愈加扑朔迷离……。In this bitingly satirical film Peter Slovan, a continuous source of trouble for the film functionaries of the socialist Slovakia, tackles an evergreen topic – the corruptive effects of power. Barnabáš Kos, a triangle player at a symphonic orchestra, is suddenly promoted to serve as the head of the said institution, even though both he and his superiors deem him completely unfit for the task. Encouraged in equal parts by this unexpected recognition and the servile praise of his colleagues, Kos’s modesty starts to gradually vanish. The erstwhile bashful and aloof percussionist quickly becomes aware of the advantages of his new office, and begins to realise his increasingly ludicrous artistic ambitions. Ultimately, the submissive marionette turns into a source of public humiliation, and his astonishing career finds an abrupt end. Orchestra serves here as a microcosm that grotesquely reflects the absurd and tragicomic mechanisms of the paranoid apparatus of power.
