纪录片《我给祖国唱首歌》共5集，每集25分钟。该纪录片以歌声为索引，从普通人的视角，寻找人们耳熟能详的五首爱国歌曲在当下的传唱故事，并寻访创作艺术家，点亮歌曲诞生背后的历史时刻。这五首歌曲分别是《我和我的祖国》、《今天是你的生日》、《我爱你，中国》、《一条大河》、《歌唱祖国》。。Andrew Dominik’s career has been crossing paths with Nick Cave’s since 2000’s Chopper, which was scored by original Bad Seeds member Mick Harvey. Seven years later, Cave wrote the music for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, assisted by another bandmate, Warren Ellis.
